At Daliburgh, just 3 miles from ferry port Lochboisdale on South Uist, this spacious property is ideally situated to explore the varied scenery and wildlife on the islands of the Hebrides.
The house has a large vestibule, lounge with colour TV, radio, dining room, farmhouse kitchen with microwave, electric cooker, fridge, washing machine, etc. Three bedrooms: 1 double room downstairs and 2 twin rooms upstairs. Fully heated throughout.
Downstairs toilet with basin, bathroom with bath, shower cubicle, toilet and basin. A cot and high chair are provided if required. A payphone is available in the house. There is parking for four cars. Shops, a pub and restaurant are located within 400 yards in the village of Daliburgh. Further facilities are available at nearby Lochboisdale.
This is a great location to stay and enjoy the peace and tranquillity of a totally different way of life. Fishing, golfing, diving, birdwatching and walking are what attracts many of our visitors to the area.
The Hebrides are famed for their long and usually empty, white sandy beaches which stretch along the west coast of the islands, running alongside the flowering machair.
For those interested in history, you will be spoilt for choice. Just a short drive away is Flora MacDonald's birthplace at Milton and the ruins of Ormacleit Castle which burned down on the eve of the Battle of Sherriffmuir. Scattered throughout South Uist you will see many of the traditional thatched cottages such as this one (pictured left) which overlooks Lochboisdale.
Travel further back in time and you can visit a wealth of archaeolgical sites of interest throughout the Uists including the huge prehistoric burial chamber at Barpa Langass with the nearby standing stone circle known as Finn's People.
The neighbouring islands of Eriskay and Barra are well worth a visit and day trips on the ferry are easily arranged. You are quite likely to spot dolphins along the way and you can see the location of the shipwreck which inspired Compton Mackenzie to write his novel Whisky Galore which was later turned into a film shot on Barra.
To the north you can also visit Harris and Lewis on a day trip by ferry from North Uist. There's certainly plenty to do and see wherever you go on these islands! |
